
Heanish Fever Hospital was built in 1905 to help with outbreaks of infectious diseases such as typhoid, scarlet fever, smallpox, and TB. It is now a private house
Captain Donald MacKinnon, one of Tiree’s many sea captains came from Heanish. He was the captain of the Taeping in the 1866 Great Tea Race. This was between clippers which raced from China to England.
Captain MacKinnon returned to Tiree in glory and was given Pairc a’ Chrannaig ‘the park of the pulpit’ in Heanish in recognition.
