Commonwealth Carnival July 2014

On Friday 18th of July Crossapol beach was transformed into an arena of Commonwealth themed sporting events. Teams circulated around the different stations competing against each other. Each team played games of beach football, volley ball, archery competitions and Will’s fantastic team races. The youth teams also completed running races and a toss the wellie contest.  All the points scored at each event were counted up and the winning teams were awarded beautiful handmade Tiree Glass trophies and medals by Olympic medallist, Luke Patience.
There were competitions and activities for under 6’s on the day as well  including races, face painting,  toss the wellie, hula hopping workshops and a beach art workshop.
The beach art team also worked hard all day creating an incredible Commonwealth Carnival sand sculpture. Anyone who came along to the event was invited to join in and be part of creating the sculpture and by the end of the day it looked fantastic!
A delicious barbeque was put on by the Cobbled Cow and there was even a very special live beach performance from Dun Mor.  We really hope everyone who came along and took part on Friday had a great time and we would like to thank the Big Lottery celebrate fund, Calmac, Tunnock’s Teacakes, the Red Cross, Luke Patience, Dun Mor, the sand art team, Paula the hula hooping lady and all of our wonderful volunteers and helpers on the day for making it so great!
