Fibre Broadband in Tiree

You might have noticed that Openreach are beginning to do work in Tiree.

Over the next few months they will be laying duct and cable with the goal of bringing full fibre broadband to properties which get fewer than 30Mbs of broadband.

People already getting over 30Mbs (people getting internet from the green cabinets) will hopefully get the opportunity to get fibre to their premises in a future project.

Will I get fibre?

If you are a Tiree Broadband customer you only get 10Mbs. We hope that means your property will be included – however we do not have access to a full list of properties at this time.

We are expecting that fibre will be available to purchase by the Spring.

What about Tiree Broadband

Tiree Broadband is keen that people move to fibre when they can. Our goal has always been to operate until we are not needed. Leaving us for full fibre will not cause offence – quite the opposite!

Don’t cancel now though – wait until you have your new fibre connected.

What do I need to do now?

  1. Go to https://www.openreach.com/fibre-checker and check your postcode.
    • It will tell you that fibre is NOT available right now – that’s expected.
  2. Sign up for updates. As soon as fibre is ready to purchase you will get an update.
    • That update will mean a connection is available near to your property.
  3. When the fibre is ready to purchase, do so as soon as you can.
    • Openreach will be connecting properties in batches. The more people who need to be connected, the easier it is for Openreach to plan, and the quicker it will happen.

Do I have to use BT?

No, Openreach just do the infrastructure. You will be able to pick from any provider you want – BT, Plusnet, Sky etc.
