A leading story this morning has been warning consumers to be wary of home energy efficiency scams.

Please be cautious of phone calls and social media advertisements about home energy efficiency improvements.

In Scotland, nuisance calls and adverts on social media are the main lead generators for the sale of energy-efficiency products. Scottish consumers receive significantly more nuisance calls from companies selling energy-efficiency products than those in other parts of the UK.
Some of the most frequently reported misleading energy marketing scams relate to
- insulation
- boilers
- solar panels
- heating systems
- double glazing
How do I avoid energy marketing scams?
- Avoid cold callers or adverts on social media.
- Don’t fill out any online forms or questionnaires from adverts about energy efficiency measures.
- Refuse to take part in phone surveys from cold callers.
- Research – have an impartial assessment carried out before agreeing to have any work done.
- Get at least three quotes from trusted companies before having any work done in or around your property.
- Check that quality financial protection is offered in case anything goes wrong.
