DÙN NA CLEITE
CLEIT MHOR & IRON AGE DEFENSIVE FORT
This Iron Age defensive fort is located on a dramatic rocky headland at the southern tip of Tiree. The area is now known for Happy Valley’s scenic shingle beach and on a clear day there are views out to Mull, Iona, Colonsay and Islay and Dubh Artach and Skerryvore lighthouses. But 2,000 years ago, with these panoramic views, the area made the perfect location for defence against enemies attacking from the sea. Find some of the early rock shelters on the way and we’ll walk along the zigzag causeway path to the top of the fort.
