The community minibus has settled into island life and is regularly being used by C\u00f9ram for their weekly rounds helping members of the community access shopping and activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bus was funded by a Scottish Government grant specifically for low-carbon community transport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is fully electric and can carry 8 passengers plus the driver. It is suitable for wheelchair users, and it is classed in the same category as a car for licence purposes, so you do not need a special test or qualification to drive it.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

When not being used by C\u00f9ram or the Trust, it can be booked by constituted Community Groups as long as the driving is done on a not-for-profit basis.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vehicle is insured for such use by any authorised, licenced driver aged 25-70.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trust does not charge for the use of the bus itself, but we will bill you for the electricity you use, based on mileage<\/strong>. Any additional donations would be gratefully received, to support the running costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community groups can enquire about borrowing the bus via the Trust Office at minibus@tireetrust.org.uk<\/a>.<\/strong> There is a simple application process, but it does require personal details and a driving licence check code, so please don’t leave enquiries until the last minute! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trust also owns a box trailer and a bike trailer<\/strong> – both of which can be hired by individual members of the community (your own insurance would need to cover you for towing). Again, just drop us a line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note that if you need a larger vehicle and\/or the services of a professional driver, or if you plan to charge for the transport you offer, then the community bus would not be suitable, and you would need to talk to our local private transport providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
