KILKENNETH CHAPEL – CILL CHOINNICH, TR\u00c0IGH THODHRASDAIL, AND D\u00d9N HANAIS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

SCENIC BEACH WALK FROM KILKENNETH CHAPEL TO TR\u00c0IGH THODHRASDAIL AND D\u00d9N HANAIS<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This\u202fscenic west coast walk\u202f<\/strong>takes you to the medieval ruins of\u202fKilkenneth Chapel, Tr\u00e0igh Thodhrasdail,  and D\u00f9n Hanais. Dedicated to\u202fSt Kenneth, a 6th-century companion of St Columba, the current stone chapel likely dates to the\u202f14th century. Over the centuries drifting sand has partially buried the walls. The route continues along the\u202fbeautiful white sands\u202fof Traigh Thodhrasdail with stunning views down to\u202f<\/strong>Kenavara (Ceann a\u2019 Mhara). Reaching the northern end of the beach we find\u202fD\u00f9n Hanais. This Iron Age fort (c. 600 BC \u2013 400 AD) sits on a\u202fprime vantage point\u202fand was one of Tiree\u2019s extensive network of duns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the drive home, we can stop at the Hough and Moss stone circles. While many of the stones are partially buried and may look modest individually, together they form a\u202fsignificant prehistoric ritual site\u202fthat marks a sacred landscape from Tiree’s ancient past. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Difficulty:<\/strong>\u202fEasy. A short walk over open fields to the Stone Circles, though the ground can be\u202frough and boggy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
