Those who have been following the Ùlpan updates will be aware that the current course was due to come to an end. And I am delighted to announce the 8 local residents have now completed 6 levels, 144 units, 216 hours of Ùlpan tuition!
The Ùlpan project was first started at the end of summer 2013, when 4 local residents were trained to deliver the course. Over the past 2 and half years we have offered a variety of different course methods and have had 26 pupils complete level 1 of the course.
8 of these pupils have been attending Ùlpan classes twice a week for the last 2 years and were delighted to reach the end of the course last Saturday. The pupils have put in a lot of effort and commitment into learning the Gaelic language and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them in reaching the end of the course! I would also like to thank Carrie MacLennan, Rhoda Meek and Eilidh MacFadyen who have been excellent tutors over the last 3 years. And thanks to Tiree Trust and Argyll and Bute Council who have helped to fund the courses.
We celebrated the end of the course on Saturday with a lovely lunch in the Cobbled Cow and all pupils were presented with their certificates and the tutors received lovely gifts in the form of a personalised Ùlpan cup and Tiree Chocolates!
A very big well done to all 8 pupils! We are hoping to continue with a new level 1 of the Ùlpan course in the New Year, so if you are interested in attending then please email me on donna@tireetrust.org.uk to register your interest.
