Tiree Transport Forum met with Caledonian MacBrayne and representatives from Coll on Thursday 12th September to discuss the opportunity of an extra sailing on the winter timetable for 2013/14. It was agreed by all parties that as of winter 2014 there will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday service all year with Tuesday and Thursday sailings slotting in during the summer.
In the meantime, and due to the short notice of these changes from Cal Mac, it was agreed that this winter, 2013/14, there would be a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday service and that the Clansman would serve on the run (at her normal speed) for a minimum of 8 weeks during the winter. Tiree and Coll will now work together to try to have the Hebridean Air flight to and from Oban moved from Monday and Friday to Tuesday and Thursday, so that it complements rather than competes with the future ferry service during the winter months.
The winter timetable has now be published on Calmac’s website.
Tiree Transport Forum would like to thank everyone who completed our recent survey on the ferry service. We had an excellent response and this was very helpful.
The results of the survey were that 88% would prefer to have Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday as the regular boat days and that 81% of people were not happy with the proposed increase in transit time due to the Hebridean Isles being a slower vessel. We have Informed Cal Mac and Transport Scotland of the community’s response to their proposal of the Hebridean Isles but unfortunately the use of vessel was not up for consultation. Cal Mac has ensured us that if there is any problem with the service this winter there will be a full review of the situation.
