Tiree Reaches Second Stage in Vodafone 3G Signal Hot Spot Programme

In October last year The Trust worked with Tiree Community Council to submit an application to the Vodafone Rural Open Sure Signal (ROSS) programme and we are delighted to say that Tiree has reached the second stage of the process.

If successful, the programme will see up to 10 Open Sure Signal boxes fitted to community buildings or business premises across the island creating 3G “hot spots” each with a radius of around 500m. The buildings will need a power connection and a 4Mb internet connection to host the signal box (around the size of a cereal box) which may restrict the location. However a technical team are due to contact Rosemary Omand (who has been nominated as our “Village Champion” to lead the application process) to carry out some further investigations and to find out if we have suitable sites available.

The process is likely to be very competitive with only 100 communities being chosen across the whole of the UK so there is still some way to go in the process. Fingers Crossed! Keep an eye on our website for information and updates.
