In June 2016 Tiree Community Development Trust (TCDT) reached a milestone which, when the Trust was set up 10 years previous, must have seemed beyond our wildest dreams. When Tiree Renewable Energy Ltd (TREL), the company which is owned by The Trust and in turn owns and operates Tilley the community wind turbine, made a £30,000 donation to The Trust in June it took the total amount transferred since the project started in March 2010 to £1,000,000. The project has been an incredible success and a real credit to the insightful members of our community who worked so hard to deliver the project.
At the Tiree Agricultural Show this year TREL put on a stall to celebrate this fantastic milestone. There were information boards (click here to view) showing where the money has been spent and how much has been kept aside as well as annual lists of all Windfall awards. There was also a chance to throw a hoop over a model wind turbine for a chance to win a bottle of your favourite tipple and a lucky dip for kids to win a teddy, a beach ball or a windmill. You can also see us at the Regatta on Saturday 30th July where the celebration will continue.
