The Trust has successfully secured £25,000 from the Scottish Land Fund to undertake detailed survey work on the buildings at Hynish which have been offered for community ownership by The Hebridean Trust. The Trust has allocated an additional £12,500 from the Windfall Fund which will cover some of the work and also Legal and Accounting due diligence. This work will help the Trust understand the current condition and the likely ongoing maintenance costs of owning the Category A listed buildings, as well as the likely cost of bringing ‘the Barracks’ back into good use. When the surveys are complete we will put together a business plan which will be available to the community and then hold a ballot to seek the island’s views on the idea of community ownership. Survey work is likely to begin in July and we will post further updates in here and on the TCDT website in due course.
