What is the change?
We would like to add an article into the constitution that clearly states that the Trust has the power to carry out research for and facilitate any process which might lead to an application to purchase land by a community crofting body under Part 3 of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act, should the community vote in favour of such a move.

Why does the change have to be made?
Currently the Trust is working to support a community steering group (The Community Land Ownership or CLO steering group) who are carrying out research into the likely benefits, or otherwise, of CLO on Tiree. One option which is being explored by the steering group is that of a crofting community “buy-out” which would involve a new community body, led by local crofters, purchasing the tenanted crofts and common grazing from Argyll Estate to become a new community landlord. The Trust already has the power to make an application to purchase under part 2 of the Act (a non-crofting purchase), so is now seeking members approval to include the research and facilitation of part 3 of the Act in partnership with any potential Tiree crofting body.

What do we need from you as a member?
In order to approve this change we need as many of our members as possible to attend the meeting to vote. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions on the night, and of course Tea, Coffee and Biscuits! If you cannot make it on the night you can also appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf. A proxy does not have to be a member of the Trust. If you wish to appoint a proxy please get in touch with Trust staff for details.

How long will the meeting last?
There will be a brief introduction and an opportunity to ask any questions followed by a vote. The meeting is only expected to last around 20 minutes, although Trust Staff and Directors will be on hand to speak to after the meeting if you have any other questions.
