This year’s official Christmas light switch on took place on Saturday the 12th of December at the new location of Tiree Community Business Centre. Just like our last community event – Bonfire Night, the weather was again in our favour and we had a perfect evening for the switch on.
There was an excellent turn out at the event, with young and old coming together to enjoy some mulled wine, mulled apple juice and some mince pies before the main event. Just before 5:30, everyone congregated around the Christmas Tree for the big reveal. We had a very excited and loud count down from 10 and without any technical hitches the lights came on! The tree looks absolutely fabulous – if you haven’t already seen it at night then you should definitely take a drive past to see it light up. We would like to say a very big thank you to Cameron Smith for putting up the tree and the lights, and ensuring it is Tiree wind proof, not an easy job!
Once the tree was light up, the children gave us a lovely rendition of ‘jingle bells’ in the hope that this would summon Santa – and I am pleased to say that it worked! Santa arrived in style, on his lit up, traveling transport and got a great reception from the children. He gave out sweeties, posed for photos and made sure he reminded all children to be good in the run up to Christmas!
Overall the evening was a fantastic success and we would like to thank you all for coming along. Also a big thank you to Tiree Tots, who helped to arrange the event, Tiree Community Business for allowing us to host it in their grounds, Tiree Co-op for donating sweeties and again to Cameron Smith for putting it up!
We hope you all enjoy the tree! Merry Christmas!
