Tiree Trust is gearing up to conduct a community vote concerning the future of two major sets of island assets, the harbours at Scarinish and Milton and the buildings and assets at Hynish currently owned by Hebridean Trust. The Trust has been investigating every aspect of community ownership and development of these assets for some time now.
A report was featured in the last edition of An Tirisdeach (click here to read), giving a summary of both projects and what ground work has been done to date, and detailed business plans are now available here – Harbours – Haoidhnis – or you can request a hard copy form the Trust Office. Tiree Trust is now at the stage of asking the community whether they wish to proceed and develop each project. Each project stands on its own and we have planned that, in theory, both projects could be delivered subject to meeting targets for external fund raising.
On 7th November, Tiree Trust will be issuing all Full Trust Members with voting papers to decide on the future of both the Harbours and Hynish Projects. The vote will be conducted as a postal vote, which you should expect through your door shortly after the 7th November.
You are then invited to attend the information day at An Talla on Saturday 11th November, where information will be available and you will have an opportunity to discuss the projects. A stamped addressed envelope will be provided to return your voting papers, which should be returned no later than 5pm Tuesday 14th November. Drop in at An Talla any time on Saturday 11th November between 12-4pm. Complimentary soup, sandwiches, rolls, cakes and tea/coffee will be available and there will be children’s activities in the small hall.
To be eligible to vote, you MUST be a registered full member of Tiree Community Development Trust. To qualify as a full member, you must be registered on the local Electoral Role, with Tiree confirmed as your main residence. Other than that, it will cost you just £1 for a lifetime membership. We also have an associate membership, for those who don’t live on Tiree but are interested in the activity of the Trust and junior membership for anyone under the age of 18.
The last chance to become a member in time to receive a postal ballot paper will be 12 noon on Monday 6th November.
Membership forms can be downloaded here or a paper copy can be obtained at the office in Crossapol. If you are unsure about your membership status or if any of your contact details (address and email) may have changed since you joined, please get in touch with a member of the Trust team to check. You can email or call us on 220 074.
Due to the scale of these two projects we feel it is extremely important that we give the community the best possible opportunity to learn about both projects and enable them to make an informed decision regarding the future of each.
In the meantime if you have any other questions or would like to enquire about membership then please get in touch with a member of the team by calling 220 074, emailing admin@tireetrust.org.uk
