We are putting it here to be printed out and given to people who have no signal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>1. Why this is happening<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-d9d594\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">The underwater <strong>fibre cable to Tiree is broken<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">This cable gives broadband and mobile data (EE, Vodafone, O2) to most homes and businesses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Until it\u2019s fixed, some people will not have a normal internet connection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>2. If you have home broadband (BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Plusnet, etc.)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-b28f6d\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Your service comes through the same fibre cable, so it may not work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>You should tell your provider (ISP)<\/strong> that your internet is down.<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-6848b7\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">They can log a fault and sometimes send a <strong>temporary 4G device<\/strong> (dongle or mini-hub).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">This plugs into your computer or phone and uses mobile data instead of fibre.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Not every company has good 4G coverage in Tiree, so it may or may not work indoors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>How to report it:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-eee379\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Call your broadband company using a landline or mobile (if you have signal).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">If you can\u2019t reach them, ask a friend or neighbour to report it for you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>3. Your rights<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-41b1fd\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">If your broadband isn\u2019t working, you are <strong>entitled to compensation<\/strong> under Ofcom\u2019s \u201cAutomatic Compensation Scheme\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">The scheme says that if service stops and isn\u2019t fixed within <strong>2 full working days<\/strong>, you get <strong>around \u00a39 per day<\/strong> off your bill until you have a working connection again. That working connection might be through a dongle they send you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">This applies to most big providers: <strong>BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Plusnet, EE, Virgin Media<\/strong>, and others.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Even if the problem is a wider network issue, you should still register the fault so you\u2019re counted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>4. Can I get a 4G dongle?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-ec3e1d\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Most providers can post a <strong>4G mini-hub or dongle<\/strong> that connects to mobile networks (EE, Vodafone, O2, or Three).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">In Tiree, <strong>EE<\/strong> has the best current signal, but it only works well outside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">It would be to replace your broken connection &#8211; as part of your existing package.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Vodafone and O2<\/strong> are still offline at the moment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">A dongle might work if you can place it near a window or outside wall where you get a signal. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">If you have no mobile signal at all, a dongle will not help \u2013 it still needs a network to connect to.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>5. Can I buy a new SIM or eSIM to get data?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Yes \u2013 this can work for many people.<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-22783a\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>EE<\/strong> is the only network currently working reliably in Tiree.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">You can buy an <strong>EE SIM card<\/strong> from:<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-1d9c0c\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">The EE website (if you can access it elsewhere)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Some mainland supermarkets and phone shops (friends or family could post one)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Online retailers such as Amazon or Argos<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Choose a <strong>pre-paid (Pay-As-You-Go) SIM<\/strong> or a <strong>short contract<\/strong> with data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">If your phone takes an <strong>eSIM<\/strong>, you can buy and activate one <strong>digitally<\/strong> \u2013 this can be set up over Wi-Fi if you have access at a public hotspot.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">You can then use <strong>your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot<\/strong> for a laptop or tablet \u2013 but note that this uses your mobile data allowance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Important:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Some older phones do not support eSIM \u2013 check your phone\u2019s settings or model details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">EE signal works best <strong>outside or near a window<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">If you are indoors, or your walls are thick, it may not connect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>6. Can I use someone else\u2019s connection?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-f850fa\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>An Talla<\/strong> has a temporary Wi-Fi from BT\u2019s Starlink.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">There is also a Wi-Fi hotspot outside the Exchange in Scarinish<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">You are welcome to use these if you need to check emails, top up SIM cards, or contact family.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Please don&#8217;t use them to download big files, TV series or games. That uses large amounts of data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>7. If you\u2019re not online at all<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-2552a3\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">You can still use an analogue <strong>landline phone<\/strong> for calls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">If your home phone is a <strong>digital line (through the router)<\/strong>, it won\u2019t work during the outage. Ask a neighbour if you can make a call.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Emergency numbers (999 or 112) still work from any mobile with any network, even if it\u2019s not your provider.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Keep important phone numbers written down somewhere safe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>8. Help from the community<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-32b24c\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Tiree Broadband<\/strong> and <strong>Urras Thiriodh <\/strong>are helping to identify anyone who needs to be connected because they are <strong>vulnerable, elderly, or have health needs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">If you or someone you know needs help getting online, please let us know at:<br><strong>\ud83d\udce7 <a>broadband@tireetrust.org.uk<\/a><\/strong> or <strong>\u260e\ufe0f 01879 220 074<\/strong> or by reaching out to Fiona<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">We will do what we can to connect you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>9. What happens next<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-46037b\">\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">The fibre cable repair may take <strong>weeks or longer<\/strong>, depending on weather and equipment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">We are trying to find a way to <strong>fund data<\/strong> for the local network until the repair is finished.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Updates will be shared through the Trust, Tiree Broadband, and the Community Council.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>10. In short<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">If you are struggling, contact <strong><a>broadband@tireetrust.org.uk<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Report your fault to your broadband provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Ask if they can send a 4G mini-hub or dongle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">You may be due compensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Consider an <strong>EE SIM or eSIM<\/strong> if your phone supports it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Use public Wi-Fi and Tiree Broadband carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">EE works best, but not indoors.<\/p>",
