The area is now known for Happy Valley&#8217;s scenic shingle beach and on a clear day there are views out to Mull, Iona, Colonsay and Islay and Dubh Artach and Skerryvore lighthouses. But 2,000 years ago, with these panoramic views, the area made the perfect location for defence against enemies attacking from the sea. Find some of the early rock shelters on the way and we\u2019ll walk along the zigzag causeway path to the top of the fort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Start \/ End:<\/strong> Hynish village. Hynish Trust offer excellent walks and information around the Hynish Lighthouse Shore Station and don\u2019t forget to call into Alan Stevenson House or Big Sky Books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Park and Meet: Alan Stevenson House\/Hynish complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Walking Distance:<\/strong>\u202f~3km (round trip) following the coastal path \u2013 1.5 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Terrain:<\/strong>\u202fEasy to Moderate. Track, wet ground, raised beach and machair slopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Special note: <\/strong>The path to the summit of the fort has some steep drops.
