It is one of the best examples of the more than twenty Iron Age fortresses on our island.\u202fFrom D\u00f9n na Cleite, we pass Buirean Schnoig, the roar of the Sn\u00f2ig, a booming marine geyser and will look out for the rock shelter where worked flints have been found. The oval dry-stone fort has an impressive causeway and original outer walls remaining up to 1m high, with\u202fLeabaidh an Fuamhaire\u202f(the Giant\u2019s Bed) nearby. The site\u2019s elevation and steep cliffs\u2014reaching up to 14.5m\u2014provide a sense of how Tiree\u2019s early inhabitants used the landscape for defence \u2026 and a place to hoard Viking silver.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Start \/ End:<\/strong>&nbsp;Add on to the Hynish village to D\u00f9n na Cleite walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">Hynish&nbsp;Trust offer excellent walks&nbsp;and information&nbsp;around the&nbsp;Hynish&nbsp;Lighthouse&nbsp;Shore Station&nbsp;and&nbsp;don\u2019t&nbsp;forget to&nbsp;call&nbsp;into Alan Stevenson House or Big Sky Books.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Park and Meet:<\/strong>&nbsp;Alan Stevenson House\/Hynish&nbsp;complex.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Walking\u00a0Distance:<\/strong>\u202f~4\u20135 km (round trip from Hynish) following the coastal path\u00a0&#8211;\u00a02.5 hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Terrain:<\/strong>\u202fModerate.
