IRON AGE BROCH BUILT AROUND 2000 YEARS AGO<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

On the north coast of\u202fTiree,\u202fDun Mor Vaul is one of our most impressive ancient sites. This Iron Age structure offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into life on Tiree around 2,000 years ago. The Dun or broch was built during a period when communities across northern and western Scotland constructed tall, round stone towers. Excavations at Vaul have revealed that the building was occupied for many generations. One of the highlights of visiting the Dun is its dramatic setting. The surrounding grassland and rocky shore make it a peaceful place to explore, and the location helps us understand why Iron Age communities chose to settle here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start\/ End:<\/strong> Vaul bay. If time allows and folk are keen, this can be combined with a walk on to the Ringing Stone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Park and Meet:<\/strong> Take the turning to Vaul and follow the road for about 1km, look for a small roadside parking area on the right hand side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walking Distance:<\/strong> ~3 km out and back. A gentle walk across grassland which usually takes about\u202f30 minutes to the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrain:<\/strong> Can be uneven or wet in places, so\u202fsturdy footwear is recommended. The exposed coastal location can also be windy, so bring warm or waterproof clothing if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
