Hogmanay Dance 2015

The third annual Community Hogmanay Dance, organised by Tiree Trust was yet again another great success. The dance, held in the wonderfully decorated An Talla was attended by around 100 people, who filled the dance floor all evening.

The dance kicked off at about 9:30 and we were entertained by the wonderfully talented Dùn Mòr Ceilidh Band, fronted by local residents Eilidh MacFadyen on the box, Jamie MacDonald on fiddle and Anna MacDonald on guitar and vocals. We also had the pleasure of hearing the two newest full time members of Dùn Mòr, Micheal Steele on pipes and whistle and Mairi Innes on drums. The dance floor was busy all night with familiar dances such as Canadian barn dances, highland schottische and of course the Tiree favourite hooligans jig, we even managed to include the slosh!

Just like most Tiree events, we couldn’t let the evening slip by without having a raffle. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated prizes to the raffle and of course to everyone who bought tickets!

After the raffle, we didn’t have long to wait for the ‘bells’ and everyone was urged to top up their glasses in anticipation for the New Year! Everyone gathered together on the dance floor of An Talla as we counted down to 2016, which we welcomed with cheering and well wishes! There was a lovely atmosphere in the room as we all joined hands and enjoyed a rendition of ‘Auld Lang Syne’! The well wishes continued throughout the evening and everyone was in excellent spirits.

The dancing was finished off in traditional Tiree style with the last waltz followed by an orcadian strip the willow which filled the length on the room! The music throughout the evening from Dùn Mòr Ceilidh Band was top class as usual and enjoyed by all! The evening came to a close just after 1am and we would like to say a massive thank you to all who helped to clear up at the end of the night. Everyone gave a helping hand to clear away the tables and chairs, which was very much appreciated.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped to make the dance a success, Dun Mor Ceilidh Band for their excellent music, everyone who volunteered to help run the event and tidy up afterwards, all who donated raffle prizes, and bought some tickets too, and also a big thank you to all who came out to celebrate the New Year together!

Tiree Trust would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year – here’s to 2016!
