On the 30th April 2020 the Scottish Government announced that a fund had been set up to provide a one off grant of £2,000 for the newly self-employed who are not able to access other COVID-19 support and are now facing hardship as a result of COVID-19 The fund is administered by Argyll and Bute Council in line with eligibility criteria set by the Scottish Government. Small businesses will benefit from a new fast-track finance scheme providing loans with a 100% government-backed guarantee for lenders, the Chancellor announced (Monday 27 April). The scheme will launch for applications on Monday 4 May. As of Monday 20th April, employers can now apply to the UK Government’s Job Retention Scheme to receive funding for furloughed employees. This initiative will provide up to 80% of the cost of retaining staff (including apprentices) who would otherwise have had to be laid off because of the Coronavirus. Due to the lockdown period being continued for another three weeks the scheme has now been extended to cover staff salaries until the end of June 2020.
