We are delighted to report that Tiree Broadband, which is owned by Tiree Community Development Trust (TCDT), last week received confirmation of a successful application to Community Broadband Scotland for £80,000 to upgrade the current Tiree Broadband Network. The planned upgrade will allow them to take full advantage of their new Fibre Optic backhaul. It will also allow Tiree Broadband to offer a range of new services including an up to 30MbBroadbandps service to existing and new customers and it is hoped that work will commence in March 2017, taking around four months to complete.
Tiree also looks set to benefit from upgraded mobile phone coverage after EE submitted a planning application to erect a 4G mast near Garaphail, Cornaigmore. In addition, TCDT has been approached by Scottish
Futures Trust, who delivered the community 4G mast on Coll, to consider a similar project involving O2 and Vodafone, however talks are at a very early stage.
Please keep an eye on the TCDT website, social media and An Tirisdeach for further updates on these exciting projects.
