What we do

Currently we own 8 community assets including; a wind turbine, 2 harbours, a shop, an electric minibus, an art installation, 4 business units and a fuel station. As well as owning and running those, we have a broad range of ongoing projects.

Our Ranger manages the Croft Camping scheme, runs wildlife walks and helps make sure that our natural environment is protected.

Originally set up independently before being adopted under the Trust, Discover Tiree is the official, community owned and led, Destination Management Organisation for Tiree.

We distribute funding to projects, events and services that benefit the Tiree community development goals identified in our charitable objects, and our Community Development Plan.

Our Youth Worker runs regular events and sports activities as well as a youth club, a sci-fi club and more!

The Cruas Project is an umbrella under which we run initiatives to tackle the cost-of-living crisis in Tiree. Our team values discretion and confidentiality. As a result, our work is not always obvious.

We run a number of events each year with the goal of increasing the use of Gaelic in our community, including social events and classes.

We are actively working to improve the housing situation in Tiree for residents.

We have a working group which supports us in that work.

We can now offer EPCs to people who own property in Tiree. We are also doing work to understand the energy needs of residents – particularly in relation to insulation and energy efficiency so that we can better support people to save money.

We have been working with Science Ceilidh to learn more about climate adapatation in Tiree. We are looking forward to supporting the creation of a new climate action group very soon!

Our Climate Adaptation work involved consultation with our Crofting community. From that, we are developing support packages aimed at making it easier for Crofters to access CAGS funding.

The lack of childcare is a serious issue in Tiree. We have a Childcare Working Group who are helping our Development Officers learn more and find solutions.

Our next projects include a feasibility study on building a new vet practice.

We are very excited to share our new partnership with Argyll and Bute Citizens Advice Bureau (ABCAB) – Tiree residents can now book a face-to-face Citizens Advice appointment with Fiona or Emmie.

To book an appointment, please use the contact details below, and be sure to mention you are a Tiree resident if you would like a face-to-face appointment! Email and phone appointments are still available with ABCAB as they were before.
