We are delighted that Neil Hugh has achieved a place at the Glasgow Warriors Rugby Academy. Not only that, but he is playing for the Glasgow Hawkes – they are in the premiership in Scotland and the highest-level amateur rugby team in Glasgow!
To encourage him on his way, Urras Thiriodh has sponsored his shirt this season!
Neil Hugh cut his teeth playing rugby as part of Willie’s youth activities. He told the Tirisdeach, “There was always a bit of rugby going on in Tiree with Willie and when I went to Oban in my sixth year, I got involved in the local rugby club there and had opportunities. The main reason for this opportunity though is because of Willie and his encouragement and being involved in all the clubs that he runs for the young people in Tiree”
He has also been a huge asset to Willie, coming back in the summer and volunteering his time to coach.
Looking to the future, Neil said, “There’s an under 29s Six Nations coming up in February and I’d like to try and see myself involved in that if possible. They have just started a Scotland Rugby Academy where they pick 50 from across the country to train with the Scottish team, so that is another aspiration.”
We wish Neil all the very best with the Warriors and can’t wait to see where he goes from here.
