Music & Culture – Introduction from Donna

I am very excited this week to have started my role with the Trust as Music and Culture Coordinator (MCC). With music and culture being two extremely important aspects of Tiree’s culture, and following feedback from relevant island groups, the Trust have decided to pilot this role for 12 months.

The main purpose of my post is to work with all relevant groups to coordinate music, culture and Gaelic activities. This week I have started to identify and contact all music and culture groups to get an understanding of their main objectives and to find out how my role can help them to develop, whether it be funding applications, admin or general coordination.

As part of my role I am hoping to set up ‘what’s on Tiree’, an online document as well as being advertised locally throughout the island.  Much like the diary at the back of An Tirisdeach, but something that is easily accessible and updated regularly and at the last minute if needed.  I will be contacting local groups and businesses to get a list of planned events, wither they are weekly, monthly, annually or one offs.  If you have an event that you think should be advertised here, then please drop me an email.

My core office hours are Monday – Wednesday, 9am – 4pm, based in room 1 at the Rural Centre.  If you would like to discuss anything at all then please feel free to pop into the office, phone me on 01879 220 074 or email me- donna@tireetrust.org.uk
