Staying Fit During Covid-19

Tiree Exercise Initiative

Many of you will know that prior to the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Medical Practice in collaboration with Curam gained funding for a targeted initiative to help people make healthy changes in their lives, with the focus on regular gentle exercise, in a supportive group setting.  

Though Will, Bella and Carol and their groups had made a great start with this project, things were really just getting started when the pandemic struck and we had to call a halt.  We tried late in 2020 to get things restarted in a socially distanced format, but unfortunately, we could not do so.  It is now clear that group activities of any kind will be a while before they are possible again, and we recognise how hard that makes it for people to keep fit and active.  For that reason, we have redesigned the Initiative to be delivered without face-to-face tuition or group work.  There will be online gentle exercise classes with Will, and Carol will be offering the Counterweight, weight management programme.

We have opened it up to anyone from the island who wants to join in.  Over the next few weeks, you will see further detail in An Tirisdeach, Facebook and by SMS from the class providers on when the groups will run and how to get involved.
It has never been more important to keep fit or get fit and the challenges to doing so are greater than ever. We really hope this initiative will offer some help, and be a bit of fun.

The groups will be free of charge and everyone is welcome.  We would encourage anyone who is thinking about it to just give it a go.  If there is anyone who would like to join, but does not have access to the internet and/or a device to do Zoom classes on, do let us know, and we will work something out.
