Tiree Community Development Trust has been exploring the idea of a community purchase of the former I&F MacLeod shop building and how it could be used to stimulate economic activity and ideally create jobs. TCDT has had initial talks with the owners and also Highlands and Islands Enterprise which is supporting the Trust with an application to the Scottish Land Fund towards the costs of purchase, and we are now putting together our project proposal.  In order to have the best chance of success, we must present a robust, sustainable and viable business plan and a good fit with the funder’s outcome to achieve increased sustainable economic, social and environmental development through owning and managing assets.

To strengthen that case we would like to invite local community groups, businesses or individuals with a business idea to get in touch with an expression of interest in renting either all of or part of the building. It could be that you are interested in opening a shop there again or maybe you desperately need office space or a workshop or studio space. Any business idea would be considered and development of the building could be considered, to suit a specific business need.

If you are interested please contact Andy at the Trust on 220 074 or email andy@tireetrust.org.uk with your idea/proposal. Any proposals received will be treated with the strictest confidence at this stage.
